DeltaWorker

A unique machine for a unique challenge

The Deltaworker is a unique machine that transports wind turbine technicians to the turbines on a daily basis. Although the vehicle resembles a snow groomer, its function is entirely different. With the Deltaworker, technicians can be transported safely.

Work Areas
At Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam, there is a wind farm of which several wind turbines are located in the surf zone of the sea. Once the tide comes in, it is no longer possible to reach these turbines with a conventional vehicle. That is exactly what the Deltaworker was built for. It can manoeuvre through the water and safely transport technicians to the correct wind turbine.

The modifications
We have modified the Deltaworker in several areas to enable it to perform its tasks effortlessly. To start with, the undercarriage has been widened, ensuring the vehicle remains stable at all times. In addition, the Deltaworker has been raised, allowing it to drive through water at depths of up to 1.8–2.0 metres.

A Palfinger PK 23500M truck-mounted crane is installed on the Deltaworker. This crane, equipped with a hydraulically extendable telescopic boom, provides long reach and precise manoeuvrability. A three-person man basket is attached to the crane, featuring a steel frame, safety rails and handrails. Together, these components ensure that technicians can be transported safely, even in challenging environments.

Certificates
The Deltaworker is also built in accordance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and has been issued an EC type-examination certificate. This includes a declaration of conformity under EN 280-1 & 2:2022.
The conformity inspection was carried out by a notified body, which issued the official certificates.
