ES-TRIN certification will become mandatory for coupling pontoons in the course of 2028. Would you like to know more about the new regulations? Read below to find out what NATO pontoons and XL pontoons must comply with.
In 2019, stricter rules were introduced regarding the certification of coupled pontoon assemblies under the ES-TRIN scheme. As there were still many old but serviceable coupled pontoons in use across Europe, a grace period was introduced; until 2028, it will still be permitted to use the old coupled pontoons provided they have a valid hull certificate. After 2028, this scheme will expire and all coupled pontoons in a configuration must comply with the new ES-TRIN requirements.
All pontoons sold by us come with a hull certificate. These certificates are issued by an accredited certification body. You can use these certificates to have the stability calculation carried out for ES-TRIN certification. The relevant documentation must always be kept on board the floating structure.
In order to obtain a hull inspection certificate, our coupling pontoons must meet a number of requirements. We have listed the most important ones below:
New Waterking pontoons always meet the above requirements. The certificates are valid for 10 years. After these 10 years, a new certificate can be applied for for each pontoon; please check carefully that your pontoons meet the above requirements. Following a successful re-inspection, you will be issued with a new certificate valid for 10 years.
Using the structural declarations, our customer can request the stability calculation for the assembly themselves. This request also covers all components present on the assembly. If this is approved, the ES-TRIN platform is certified. The customer is always responsible for ensuring this certificate is in place.
